Hello again dear readers! We wish to extend our warmest welcome to all of you who visited our blog about taxi services in the US.
Some might find it weird that we made a whole blog talking about taxis, but our following question would be why? We bet that everyone who is reading this blog has called a cab at least a dozen, if not hundreds, of times, and we also bet that very few of our readers actually know the history of taxi services in the US or the world en-large.
If you’re one of these people, we encourage you to read our first blog post, the welcome post, which goes into detail about the creation of taxis and their introduction in America.
We will use this section of the blog to instead tell you a little bit about ourselves and why we created the blog.
Why Are You Guys So Taxi-Obsessed
In case you didn’t get it, we love taxis. There are few things in life as pleasant as being driven around with not a single care about finding parking or being sober. We know that there are many among you that feel the same way, but would never dedicate their free time to research taxi services, so we guess we are outliers.
If truth be told, there are a few reasons as to why we love taxis and want to share that love with the world.
First and foremost, we all live in New York City. That alone could explain why we feel so strongly about cabs.
Having a car in the big city is a gamble considering the non-existent parking spots and the unfortunate, but prevalent, car theft. While there is a great subway system, many people, us included, don’t like feeling like sardines in the packed Manhattan trains. New York is a fairly walkable city, in comparison to other metropolises like LA, but it’s also massive, so having a reliable cab that can take you from Sugar Hill to Tribeca sure is nice.
Another reason why we love taxis so much is because we grew up with them. Feel free to call us sentimental but growing up in New York, seeing our beloved yellow cabs brings a sense of nostalgia, reminding us of our first rides with our parents on our way to the MET and other iconic locations.
It doesn’t make it hard to love yellow cabs when every single film and TV show based in New York depicts them in such a loving manner (Taxi Driver being the exclusion, lol). Remember that there was a whole TV show, Taxi, made just about the yellow cabs and their drivers?
Sooo…. Why Did We Make This Blog
Perhaps our story already made it clear why we made the blog, but there are a few other things we want to add.
Nowadays, people can choose between many different taxi-like services such as Uber, Lyft, and now even robotaxi services like Waymo and Cruise. While we enjoy having so many options, there is something unique about regular taxis that Silicon Valley companies simply cannot capture.
One of the things we dislike about this new normal is the requirement of Internet connection and an app for every single service. You cannot get an Uber if your phone is dead. Think about it. No, seriously, think about it.
Some cities around the world have unfortunately fell in the app trap, so good luck going back home in the pouring rain if someone steals your phone.
So, to summarize, the reason why we made this blog is to pay homage to our trusted taxis and their drivers. Our motivations are not solely based on nostalgia and desire to go back to simpler times, but also pure and simple convenience.
At the same time, we want to cover newcomers like the aforementioned robotaxis, because we welcome innovation, but we want to show that you can indulge in the latest trend without destroying an established field.
